ABOUT ARTIST

Marlene was born in 1973 into the Pintupi language group of the Central and Western desert. Marlene is married to Adrian Young Tjupurrula. Her father is the famous Tommy Lowry Tjapaltjarri and her adopted father is the renowned

Doctor George Tjapaltjarri.
Marlene’s main Tjukurrpa stories include important Women’s Dreamings and the body paint associated with them. Marlene uses bright colours and this is one of her trademarks coupled, that is typical of work from the Western Desert.

Marlene’s works are included in numerous exhibitions and galleries throughout Australia and she is highly regarded as an emerging artist.


Marlene’s works depict the journey path of “Kungka Kutjara“, travelling women and their journey towards the site of Munni Munni which is South East of Kintore.
